Behaviour Principles
At Padbury Church of England School, we believe that positive behaviour is at the heart of a happy, successful and thriving school. When children feel safe, valued and respected, they are able to learn with confidence, build positive relationships and achieve their very best.
We know that children learn best in an environment where expectations are clear, routines are consistent and everyone is treated with kindness and respect. Good behaviour supports learning, helps children feel secure and enables our whole school community to flourish together.
Our approach to behaviour is rooted in our Christian vision and values of Love and Kindness, Respect, Courage, Self-Control and Trust. These values shape our relationships, guide our decision-making and help us create a culture where everyone feels they belong. We encourage children to demonstrate these values every day: showing kindness to others, treating people with respect, having the courage to do the right thing, exercising self-control in challenging situations and building trusting relationships.
We believe that positive behaviour is taught, modelled and encouraged through strong relationships, high expectations and consistent support. Children are helped to understand the impact of their choices, reflect on their actions and learn from their experiences. When mistakes are made, we use them as opportunities for growth, encouraging children to repair relationships and make positive choices moving forward.
We recognise that all children are individuals and that behaviour is a form of communication. We seek to understand the reasons behind behaviour and provide support that is fair, nurturing and appropriate to each child's age and stage of development. While positive behaviour is recognised and celebrated, any behaviours that compromise the safety, wellbeing or learning of others are addressed calmly and consistently.
Bullying, racism, discrimination and any form of harassment are not tolerated at Padbury. We are committed to ensuring that every member of our school community feels safe, included, respected and valued.
Our Christian values underpin our expectations for behaviour. We make it easy to behave well and encourage every child to succeed by:
- Building strong, positive relationships with every child.
- Treating all pupils with unconditional positive regard.
- Promoting Love and Kindness through caring actions and supportive relationships.
- Encouraging Respect for ourselves, others and the world around us.
- Developing Courage to persevere, speak up when something is wrong and embrace new challenges.
- Supporting children to demonstrate Self-Control and make thoughtful choices.
- Fostering Trust through honesty, responsibility and reliability.
- Recognising, celebrating and rewarding positive behaviour and effort.
- Maintaining clear and consistent expectations across the school.
- Working closely with families to support children's wellbeing and personal development.
If a child is worried or concerned about their own behaviour, or the behaviour of someone towards them, they are encouraged to speak to their class teacher or any trusted adult in school. We are committed to listening, supporting and helping every child feel safe, valued and heard.
At Padbury, our aim is for every child to develop the character, confidence and compassion to make a positive difference in school, within their community and in the wider world, guided by our values of Love and Kindness, Respect, Courage, Self-Control and Trust.
