Eco Council

We started our Eco Council in 2023 with a mission to see what we could do to become more sustainable as a school. We needed to apply for the position and we were chosen for our commitment to trying to improve the environment. We signed up for Eco Schools in 2024 and were awarded the Green Flag with distinction in July 2025.  Our areas of focus were:

  • Increasing Bio Diversity
  • Reducing litter in school and in the local area
  • Raising awareness and being active citizens in improving marine life.

So far, some of us have presented at a conference with other schools from the Trust and some of us have presented our ideas on how the Trust can help us at the Sustainability Conference to headteachers and Chairs of Governors from all the schools in the Trust.

At school, we have made many changes already. They are

  • Creating posters to remind people to switch lights off.
  • Recycling bins in each room.
  • A battery collection point for the school.
  • Changing the heating in the hall to a more efficient energy source.
  • Switching all light bulbs to LED lights
  • Moving to an environmentally friendly company to purchase recycled paper towels and toilet paper.
  • Buying reusable, recyclable glue sticks for all children.
  • Created a bug hotel
  • Created a wormery

Our school allotment is also now up and running, growing lots of food. Children from all classes are involved in helping plan, plant, water and care for the fruits, vegetables and flowers. In September 2025 we entered the Padbury Produce Show and won some 2nd and 3rd places!
